Previous to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives, Virgil
Goode received the NRA-PVF's highest possible rating indicating that
he is a "Proven pro-Second Amendment leader. Has gone the extra mile
to sponsor legislation, lobby fellow legislators and speak out publically
in favor of pro-gun reforms" (American Rifleman, November/December
1996).
Accordingly, gun owners and sportsmen are said to have "no greater
friend in the Virginia Senate than Virgil Goode...(who) has fought against
restrictive laws such as the gun rationing one-gun-a-month law and was
the chief sponsor of the 1995 right-to-carry bill. Virgil Goode does not
vote pro-gun because he thinks its good politics, he votes pro-gun because
he believes in protecting our Constitutional rights from infringement"
(American Rifleman, November/December 1996).
