Ann Lewis Booker


Family

Ann Lewis Booker was born on 1 September 1946 at Our Lady of Lake Saunter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At the time of her birth, her family was living in Baton Rouge.

Her father Harry Hamilton Booker, Jr. was an assistant Superintendent at Danzeger Oil Refinery out of Leesville, Louisiana and her mother Margaret Booker was a housewife.

Ann has three brothers, Eddie, Pat, and Hoy, and two sisters, Mary Ethel and Margaret.

On 22 July 1972, she married George Edward Loper at her mother's home in New Orleans, Louisiana. George and Ann have three children: Matthew, Edward, and Hoy .

 

Education

Ann received a B.S. in Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1968 and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1972.

 

Career

Ann worked as a Clinical Psychologist at Children's Psychiatric Center in Eatontown, New Jersey from 1972 to 1974 and as a School Psychologist for the Charlottesville Public Schools from 1975 to 1977. In 1978 she was appointed Assistant Professor in the Learning Disabilities Research Institute at the University of Virginia, after which she worked on the Curry School Computer Simulation Teacher Training Project at the University of Virginia. Since 1991, she has worked as a faculty member in the Curry Programs in Clinical and School Psychology. On April 13, 1996, Ann Booker Loper was presented the Lucille Michie Award by the students of the Curry Programs in Clinical and School Psychology at the University of Virginia. As of September 1, 1996, she became Interim Director for the Center for Clinical Psychology Services and is now the Director for the Center for Clinical Psychological Services at the Curry School. In 1997 Ann was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Virginia. As a clinician, she specializes in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology. Her current research activities focus on gender differences in pathological behavior and she currently serves as Associate Director for Research for the Virginia Youth Violence Project at the University of Virginia.
