Pictures From Edward Loper's Graduation

A multi-media tribute to a great trip by Hoy Loper, the youngest -- Composed August 1999.

The Graduation:
Well Eddie might not care all that much about it, and...yes...I might not care, and I wouldn't suppose Matthew would particularly think of it with a lot of zest. My parents probably think its important. But mostly, yes mostly (at least as far as i can tell), the reason to graduate is but twofold: the presents, and the parties!

Where's Eddie!
In a fruitless effort to get a shot of Eddie while he was walking down the path after getting his degree, we have a plethagora of pictures with lots of black hats and an Edward somewhere in the center. However, for your Eddie-searching pleasure, we have combined all 9 nine pictures into one stylish collage. Click on the spots where you think you see Ed, and if you're right he'll be circled -- we'll see if anyone gets them all!

Graduation -- from Now to a Memory
When we say 'graduation', it was really more of a picnic. People ambled all around the graduation lawn, taking photos and reading books. People chatted, enjoyed themselves, and idly waited for their child's name to be called so they could get out of there. There was no such luck for the students, however, who had to sit in very uncomfortable chairs in rows for nearly the entire time. I think while they may have been a little bit happy about getting a degree, they must appriciate it a lot more that they're not sitting in chairs watching a person hand out little tiny certificates!

The Party
In honor of the great adventure of graduation, us Loper's threw a big party for all of Edward's graduating friends. Unfortunately, we had all recently seen Star Wars, episode 1, and it was such a bad movie that we were forced to give Ed jedi-related presents. A few primary gifts:

  • Four (4) light sabers
  • One (scary) darth maul mask/cape
  • One (philisophical) book -- the Jedi Handbook
  • Two (broken) videogames -- the Jedi Training
  • One (undefeated) wookie cookbook -- a gift from Jarjar
  • Finally, a CD version 6 of Redhat Linux -- the Jedi Operating System of Choice.

In Boston...
Boston was an interesting affair. If you ask one of the kids (like me) what they did every morning and night, they will undoubtedly reply 'Computer games and sleep'. The rest of our bunch -- Mom, her sister Marge, and Dad -- spent the time between midnight and noon hours shmoozing and eating breakfast.
In the afternoons the whole group went out to picnics and a few local touristy things (though not very many; we've done most of them, since both Edward and Matthew live up there). We shopped, for Eddie and ourselves, bought a few goodies, and waited for the fall of night. It was around this time that us computer game players finally woke up, and things started getting interesting...we spent that time doing anything from eating at crazy resteraunts to light-saber dueling to movie-watching to partying at the MIT post-graduation disco dance!
